Let us introduce you to our doctors:

DOCTOR OF CHIROPRACTIC
Gary Arthur, D.C.
Certified in: Applied Kinesiology, Chiropractic Biophysics & Postural Restoration, NET (Neuro-Emotional Technique), and CHEK Exercise & Holistic Health Coaching, and Specializes in Graston Technique
Dr. Gary works with patients to find the root causes of their health challenges and design a lifestyle and treatment program for correcting the underlying causes and restoring flourishing health.
At the early age of 9, Dr. Gary, DC, learned the importance of good health when his father, a young minister, died at the age of 39. He had suffered from a myriad of health problems. "It made such a strong impact on me that I vowed to God that I would commit my life to helping people be healthy. I love being a doctor and a health coach, helping others heal, empowering them to take charge of their lives and become their best."
Dr. Gary. DC studied 5 years in Pre-Med and Music at L.A. Pierce Junior College and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. At age 21, his health diminished rapidly after receiving a severe whiplash in a rear-end car accident. He experienced the toxic side effects of mercury toxicity from complications caused by amalgam fillings. Three months later he started losing his hair, his skin turned pale and he developed bags underneath his eyes. He found help and recovery through natural healthcare including; applied kinesiology, chiropractic, detoxification protocols, and nutritional therapy. This chain of events completely changed the direction of his life. He then began an extensive study of nutrition and completed his degree as a Nutritional Technician. He continued studying the laws of natural healing and worked as a nutritional and fitness consultant for 4 years. He was accepted into Naturopathic Medical School, but at that time they were not allowed to practice in California where he was raised. After researching all of the different healing professions and what they had to offer, he and his wife Lisa decided that becoming a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) was the most well rounded healing art for their path in California. The scope of practice as a D.C. could include all-natural healthcare, except for prescribing pharmaceutical medications, surgeries, and puncturing the skin.
Gary graduated with honors from Palmer West College of Chiropractic in 1987 where he specialized in Applied Kinesiology. He chose Applied Kinesiology (AK) because of its comprehensive natural perspective of the body and the incredible results that he witnessed.
Dr. Gary and his wife, Dr. Lisa founded Health in Balance in 1987 with the mission to see lives changed for the better using a unique integrative approach that all may flourish and live active, pain free lives. They have brought together a vibrant team of people with the same vision. Dr. Gary and his team have worked with numerous professional and Olympic athletes. He has worked as the sports doctor for the Women's Professional Volleyball Association as well as Laguna Beach High School athletic teams. He has seen thousands of patients get out of pain and be restored to an active, flourishing life.
The Arthur's enjoy a full and balanced life with their four children. They have offered their unique and uplifting message of health on television programs and educational seminars, and have been active members of their community in Laguna Beach and beyond.

DOCTOR OF CHIROPRACTIC
Lisa Arthur, D.C.
Certified in: Applied Kinesiology, NET (Neuro-Emotional Technique), and Homeopathy, Specializing in Prenatal & Postnatal care and Graston Technique
Dr. Lisa sees powerful results with her patients by combining chiropractic care, naturopathic medicine, and homeopathy. She is a mother of four and enjoys working with families and patients of all ages to support a vibrant quality of life. She specializes in finding the cause of symptoms and walking patients through lifestyle changes and treatment for lasting results.
I graduated with a doctorate degree in chiropractic medicine from Palmer West Chiropractic College in June of 1987. Together we have a full quiver of amazing children. Our son Ryah and our daughters are Aria, Morea, and Eliana.
I was originally inspired to be a healing practitioner because I became a student of health at a very early age. Chiropractic was a logical and natural step in continuing my studies in health and longevity. I’ve chosen to devote my life to the healing arts because that is what makes the utmost sense to me. I am grateful I did so because I love to see people regain their health and abide in their full potential.
I strongly believe in the principles of natural healing, which support the belief that the body can heal itself if given the opportunity. The roadblocks to healing must be identified and then overcome.
I believe with all my heart in how I practice and always continue striving to improve my skills. I give an excellent service for a fair fee. I want to help people get well and stay well. I ask that you refer and continue to refer patients to me because I believe everyone needs to give their body the chance to thrive on its own before drugs or surgery are introduced.
My husband and I established this clinic in Laguna Beach because it is an enclave of people who live and breathe, wanting the best for themselves and their families. They want to spread that health and wealth. This clinic is safe, peaceful, and dedicated. The whole purpose of this clinic is to give our clients the best of what is cutting edge in the health care world.
What seems to make this practice unique is that we are all believers in the power of the body’s ability to heal itself. My personal promise to you is that we will do all we can to help you get well and if it is beyond our scope of expertise we will refer you to someone who can help you.
In Good Health,
Dr. Lisa Arthur, DC
"I love this profession! My passion is combining chiropractic care with homeopathy and nutritional therapy. The results are overwhelmingly powerful. As a mother of four children, I find that when my children are in pain, I want quick results. I have found such results by combining these three wonderful healing arts. My vision is to support parents in their choice to treat their children with the highest quality of healthcare possible."

CHIROPRACTOR
Jordan Martin, D.C.

As a doctor of chiropractic, I promise to come alongside my patients and help them achieve their goals to a better quality of life. A WORD FROM DR. JORDAN MARTIN, DC
"I would like to share a bit about myself and why I am a doctor of Chiropractic. My name is Dr. Jordan Martin, and I was born and raised right here in Laguna Beach. I studied psychology at the University of Santa Cruz and then graduated at the top of my class with my Doctorate in Chiropractic medicine from Palmer West Chiropractic College in September 2015. I currently reside in South Laguna with my wife, son, and daughter. Outside of chiropractic, my passions include; freediving, surfing, fishing, hiking, volleyball, and spending time with my family.
I was inspired to become a chiropractor at the young age of 16 years old. Up until this time, I was sure I wanted to be a Marine Biologist due to my passion for the ocean and marine life; however, life took an unexpected turn when I became a patient at Health in Balance. Always being involved in sports, I had my fair share of injuries. One recurring injury of mine was sprained ankles. Prior to being treated by Dr. Gary Arthur, I would always treat my ankle sprains with conventional western medicine, which consisted of wearing a boot and taking 4-8 weeks off my activities. This all changed one day when Dr. Gary witnessed me sprain my ankle as I was playing volleyball. I immediately received chiropractic care right here at Health in Balance, and I discovered that I not only didn’t have to wear a boot again but was back playing in a week and a half. This blew my mind and hence sparked my interest in chiropractic care. Throughout my remaining high school years, I became a consistent patient at Health in Balance, successfully treating lower back pain and relieving the body’s stressors to allow my body to heal itself. To this day I have never had another ankle sprain.
I am grateful to have chosen the path as a chiropractor because nothing compares to the reward of helping people get well and educating them on their body and overall health. I strive to help my patients understand why they are in pain, how to alleviate it, and how to let their body function at its peak performance. The human body is an incredible machine that is built to heal itself if given the opportunity to do so."

Naturopathic Doctor/Licensed Acupuncturist
Barbara Rush, N.D., L.A.c.
I graduated from the National University of Natural Medicine (2003) and the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (2005) both in Portland, Oregon. I feel incredibly lucky to help people realize a level of health using methods that have been forgotten for many, many years. Many that come to me have been to other practitioners and left feeling frustrated. Traditional test results can make it seem like “nothing is wrong with you”. Yet, the patient knows something is not quite right. My philosophy allows me to look beyond those tests to find the underlying issue. Unique testing and my naturopathic philosophy have helped thousands realize the robust health they have been looking for.
So many ask why I chose to get into the niche of cardiovascular medicine. My simple answer is… Let me tell you my story.
When I was a very little girl, my father’s cardiologist told him that he needed open-heart surgery. That was in the very early 1970’s when it was not a common procedure and didn’t have the survival rates it does today.
He survived the surgery (whew) and because I was so young, was only allowed into his hospital room if I held the hands of 2 adults. The sight of him attached to so many “things” has never left my memory. I was too little to know what was really going on and I was scared. Little did I know that scene would set the stage for what I do today.
Well, it didn’t take long for my father’s cardiologist to tell him that “he had more work to do” when it came to his heart health. The doctor recommended he travel to the California coast to stay at a very special cardiologist’s on-site clinic for a little while. He was to learn a new lifestyle. He was to attend lectures to learn what causes heart disease and how to make the necessary changes to get better and stay that way. His diet was strictly controlled based on the new information he was learning. No more fat and lots of grains were the way to go.
At that age, I had no concept of time. So I didn’t know if he was gone for 6 weeks or 3 months. But when he returned he was walking for 45 minutes every day, much slimmer, and had a very different diet. Meal time was unique in that my mother and I had one meal while my father got to eat completely different things. He stuck with it and followed “the rules.” The family felt so much better now that the new lifestyle had him looking and feeling so much better. So on we went with our lives, feeling safer in his longevity.
I chose to move to the Los Angeles area with a friend not long afterward. I wasn’t there for even 2 months when I got a phone call at 6 am on a Monday morning from my sister. “Dad’s had a heart attack. He’s dead!” I was only 19 years old. How could that be? He did EVERYTHING he was told. He followed the rules and this is the result? I wasn’t just sad about his death, but I felt cheated.
It was not long after his death that I also learned that the California cardiologist whom he spent time with also passed away due to a heart attack. That’s all it took for me to start down a very different road than the life midwestern girls were groomed for. That got me to Naturopathic medical school, where we were required to take classes covering subjects like Diet, Food Science, and Nutrition - all of which ended up on my medical board exam. That is when I realized exactly why my father still died from a heart attack.
And that is why I am here to help anyone who wants to achieve and maintain robust heart health. I offer the Max Pulse test to reveal where you are currently and evidence-based advice on how to get where you want to go with your health. Many are surprised to learn that it doesn’t have to be cost prohibitive to get the results you want. To those who I feel truly need the help and who think they would like to take it, I offer a product I created based on Nobel prize-winning science. Because when we think about it, our heart doesn’t just belong to us. It belongs to all that love, need and depend on us. So here is to great heart health. I hope I can help on your journey.
