Increased Cancer Risk from Chronic Infection

The holiday season is upon us! We want to wish you and your family a happy Thanksgiving week.

As we reflect on what we are grateful for, we remember that our health is a blessing and a gift.

We encourage you, no matter where you are on your journey of health, to take time to be grateful for your life, your body, the activities you are able to do, for a heart that is beating, and lungs that are breathing.

Our gift of health is to be stewarded well, valued, and respected. One of the best ways to do this is to live a lifestyle of prevention. Today, we empower you with information to do just that.

Dr. Marcela shares about the importance of a healthy immune system and the effect of chronic infections on cancer risk:

Many studies have demonstrated the presence of chronic infections and underlying immune dysfunction. Some examples include: Borrelia Burgdorfi causing Lyme's disease, Ebstein Barr Virus causing mononucleosis, herpetic infections, Mycoplasma infection causing Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and/or a chronic dental condition causing a chronic infection.

Many patients do not recall their acute infection or had such mild, barely noticeable symptoms and therefore do not realize that they have a chronic infection. Symptoms that can arise from a chronic infection can include: intermittent fevers and chills, fatigue, headaches, joint pain, neurological changes, digestive issues, and even cancer.

When a chronic infection is at work in the body, the immune system in compromised, leaving you susceptible to further health challenges, one being cancer. Thus, in order to decrease your risk of cancer and live a preventative lifestyle, it is very important to keep tabs on whether or not you have a chronic infection.

We provide specialty labs to help you uncover this. These labs require a specialized provider to interpret the findings and implement the proper treatment program.

Our Health in Balance team can work with you to discover hidden infections and help restore normal immune function. This will help to alleviate undesirable symptoms you may be experiencing and decrease your risk of cancer.
